Racine and Kenosha held a joint dedication and press conference at Sanders Park on March 18, 2002 to dedicate a new National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Radio Transmitter. The Racine/Kenosha NWS Weather Radio Transmitter has been assigned a frequency of 162.450 mhz. It will provide up to the minute weather reports and emergency information specific to the Kenosha and Racine County communities 24 hours a day. This initiative to provide full NOAA Weather Radio coverage to the Racine-Kenosha area was a joint collaboration between the National Weather Service, State of Wisconsin and the Kenosha and Racine County Emergency Management programs. The Weather Radio Transmitter is located on the northwest corner of County KR and Wood Road in Racine County. County Executive Jacobson commented, "We all know that advance warning saves lives and now that we have full coverage in Racine and Kenosha Counties, there is no reason why any household or public building should not have a NOAA Weather radio."
